- Vina/Valpo -
Beyond tired, Mark and I slept for most of the day at the hostel that I had stayed at before. We called it a night after dinner and some walking around Vina to watch TV, sleep some more. The next day we got up and headed to Valpo. With one false start because I left all our efectivo in the room, we made our way there, bajamos el micro in a random spot and proceed to walk along to coast. Once at the harbor, we scrounged for food (and ended up eating at some weird cafe teaching English to the waiter) and boarded a boat for a harbor tour. After that, we hopped on an ascensor and walked around the streets of Valpo for a bit. Caught a bus (the wrong one) and traded to the one we wanted and headed home. That night we made dinner at the hostel (hmmmmm...chilean tacos) and ate ice cream and orange soda floats for desserts. The next day we wake up at 6 to catch a bus back to Santiago, buy tickets for the 7Oclock departure...realize that our bus is going to Valpo and when we get there, realize that we are on the wrong bus. They try to blame Mark and I for this even though, before we got on, I asked the drivers assistant if this was our bus and showed him our tickets. Nos equivocamos my butt. Get back to Santiago with not to much trouble, board a bus to the airport and off to Buenos Aires we are...

We arrive, catch a cab to our hostel (that we had some trouble finding), go up only to learn that they messed up our reservation and that we will have to sleep in the dorms. They made an exception, letting Mark sleep in the girls dorm with me and we headed out to find dinner. After walking around for a long time, we opt for a place right by our hostel enjoy some interesting food and some good wine. Becuase of another prob with the hostel, we switched to a new one (which was WAY cooler), get situated and head out to experience Argentina. Finding that we had missed all the Theater tours in english for the day, we head towards a mall (the dollars is 3-1 against a Argentinan peso!) where I buy a pea coat for thirty dollars and a cute shirt. Afterwards we head to a art gallery and get to check out the Andy Warhol exhibit for like 2 bucks! Missed the hours on the really cool cemetary, we grab a FANTASTIC dinner with the most delicious bottle of wine I have ever had. We spend an HOUR walking home and crash. DAY TWO: wake up semi-early with big plans. Catch a colectivo to where we needed to go, did a Cemetary tour (we saw Eva Perons grave), Theater tour at 11 (its almost 2 hours), lunch, Bike Tour at 2 (its four hours and so, so awesome!!), walked back to our hostel, ate a delicious italian dinner and headed to bed early. DAY THREE: Wake up at 5 to get to the airport and fly back to Chile.

We went to the hostel that Dave recommended, got a room and crashed again. Got up, checked out the painters in Plaza Armada, climbed Santa Lucia, bought some gifts from the ferria and went to the English Reader (its a cafe with english books), went out with them afterwards and had a jolly good time. DAY TWO: Got up reasonably early, went to the sculpture park, bought some cute stuff at thrift store, went to Concho y Toro and finally took the wine tour in English, hopped a metro bus, then another one to Cajon. Turns out the bus wasnt going as far as we need and had a nice guy help us get a colectivo to our hostel. Eat dinner and relax...DAY THREE: Wake up early and start the trek to the glacier. Take a colectivo that tried to scam us to San Gabriel and start hitchhiking from there. About 30 minutes in, a MIRCO pulls up on this dirt road and picks us up. Mark and I were the joke of the whole bus (that was just full of family and friends). Luckily they were going where we were and road this crazy micro the whole way (and by whole way I mean we went across this rickity , wooden planked bridge in a full sized, fully packed BUS). We get to the glacier, have to convince the park ranger to let us go up (the weather was pretty bad) and begin our trek with bags over our feet. Enjoy the beautiful scenery hike 3km through the mountains, turn around and head down. About 20 minutes into our tek back, a family with 3 little kids and a packed car allow us to get in with them. We make a quick detour at a fossil stand and at the caribinero check point and back to the hostel and home to Santiago. We spend a good amount of time looking for this one restaurant only to find it closed, and end up eating at some chilean place where I got some decent pasta (once I got it without ham!). We walk around the downtown some more and head back to the hostel. DAY FOUR: Wake up early, go to the Bellas Artes Museum (which is free on sundays), went to estacion central in search (in vain) of a llama to pose with Mark, met up with and lunched with Mischa, got my things from my house, said farwell to m family, repacked at Mischas, and bid a final farwell to Santiago and South America...
